2004 Revisited
2004 was an exciting year for artist Gerald Griffin and the Griffin Galleries Family. The Artist completed the second part of the three part series “Inner Vision” and received a number of awards including the Artist of the Year from Valentine New York Magazine and a Outstanding Achievement in Visual Arts Award from the African American Arts Alliance.
Also, the artist put the finishing touches on the first installment of a three book series based on the award winning “Inner Vision” collection. “Inner Vision - Book One” will be available late summer as a first edition, leather bond coffee table art book, complete with photos and descriptions of all the works from the “Book One” series along with in depth analysis from the artist and photos of all collectors of the works.
In Addition to the work that Mr. Griffin has done , the Gallery Family has expanded to add John Martin as Director of the Griffin Collector Editions Gallery at 5309 Hyde Park Blvd.
John, who is an esteemed fine art dealer has brought a wealth of experience and expertise to the Hyde Park location. Please give him a visit!
Collector's Appreciation
The 2004 Collector’s Appreciation Gala was a night of excitement and surprises. Mr. Griffin, who was just back from a trip in the Caribbean exploring the possibility of a new gallery expansion, was not able to provide the collectors with a small original painting as he had planned.
However, as a result of his desire to show his appreciation for the patronage his collectors has shown throughout the years, the Artist allowed every collector present a once in a life time chance to select any piece in the gallery and acquire it for 1⁄2 the valued price.
As you can guess, the collectors were astounded and many were able to purchase pieces they dreamed of having. The night was filled with smiles, tears of joy, festive conversation and laughter. For those who attended, thank you and for those who could not make it we hope to see you at this year’s celebration.
Black History Exhibition
Artist Gerald Griffin will be part of an impressive group of artist’s, including Genius Grant recipient artist, Kerry James Marshall, exhibiting at the Forth Presbyterian Church on Michigan Ave.
The title of the exhibit is” The Dream Revisited” which examines how far we’ve come in society since the time of Dr. Martin Luther King’s historic dream. The exhibition dates are February 6th through the 27th and the gallery hours are 11:00 am-4:00 pm Wednesday through Sunday. Ph: 312-787-4570.
New Fine Art Editions
In a continuing effort to bring fine art collecting into the lives of all people, The Griffin Gallery has published 4 new Limited Edition Canvas Giclees.
The amazing thing about Mr. Griffin’s limited editions is that they are all produced by the artist, not by a publishing company.
Each edition is layered with oil paint highlights by the artist, then sealed with a finishing varnish just like one of a kind oil masterpieces.
Finally, each of the new editions are limited to fifty pieces . That means only fifty people in the world can own one of theses. That rarity creates great value for the collector!
The following is a list of the new editions :
1- The Word - a 40 x 40” cubism style piece examining the legacy of the African Oracle Tradition.
2- I Got Next - a 36 x 48” realist rendition exploring the determination to succeed in spite of our circumstances.
3- White Shadows - a 24 x 24” landscape From the Urban Landscapes series.
4- Book of Wisdom a 16 x 36 realist rendition paying homage to the wisdom of our elders.
Orders are now being accepted for these new editions which are available on a first come-first serve basis. To reserve yours call the gallery now @ 312-493-9697 or e-mail us at grgrinc@aol.com.
